Halloween Study Break 🎃: Making time to see friends

This week, a few of us took a little study break to do something seasonal — a Halloween-themed baking night. It was actually an activity from our COMM 339 professor (we had to make a monster-related food), so a few of our friends from the course came over to do it together.
At this point in my time at Queen's, if I don't have a class or extracurricular with a friend, I will rarely see them. I've learned that when it comes to social time, it has to be intentional. We're not in first year where we all live in a dorm or have all the same classes. If we don't plan our social life, it won't happen (we actually sent out a calendar invite...).
To be honest, there were definitely too many cooks in the kitchen. But it was a good time regardless — the kind of break that actually feels like a reset instead of another thing on your to-do list.
Taking breaks like this makes me come back to my work fresher and more focused. It’s a reminder that rest isn’t just doing nothing — it’s doing something that fills your cup. For some people, that might be time alone. For me, it’s being with people I care about, laughing, and doing something small that reminds me that life at Queen’s isn’t just about school.
Let me know in the comments if you think it actually looks like a ghost or just a blob.
